PARADISE VALLEY, ARIZONA

Desert Food Forest

A desert food forest was created in a partnership with Blackbird Naturals/Kaleidescope Juice.. Soil and mulch was imported for vegetable and fruit tree establishment, and chickens were introduced for eggs and pest management. Within the forest and underneath the mesquite tree canopy are grapes, passion fruit, prickly pear cactus, papaya, mango, guava, fig, citrus, aloe vera, pomegranate, and avocado.

In the enclosed culinary garden, there are lettuces, swiss chard, spinach, radishes, tomatoes, broccoli, and much more.  This garden is situated in a challenging environment, with plentiful sun and heat. Drip irrigation, deep mulching, and importing nutrients were crucial to helping the plants thrive.
